The characteristics of a typical pulse. The figure illustrates the key features of the activity pulse. All graphs were drawn by hand. The pulse lasts roughly teq and attains the maximum at roughly ttmax. Additional key quantities of interest are the height of the pulse μmax, fluctuations around the peak described by the standard deviation σmax, and the surface under the curve. The patterned triangle can be used to approximate the shape.
